1、over 在……上方

over一般指正上方，因为over有顶上越过的意思，飞越过去嘛，肯定要从正上方经过的。比如：

She put a blanket over the sleeping child.

她给熟睡的孩子盖上毯子。

2、above 在上面

above不一定指正上方，可以是斜上方，这就是它跟over的主要区别。比如：

The water came above our knees.

水淹过了我们的膝盖。

3、on 在……上

on一般指物体在有接触的上面，比如：

The clock on the wall showed one minute to twelve.

墙上的钟指向11点59分。

4、upon 在……上

upon表示在……上，比较正式。
